Marbella has around 30 kilometres of beach stretched along the Costa del Sol, about 24 named strands in all. The central beaches — Playa de la Fontanilla, Playa del Faro, Playa de Venus — are close to the old town, well served by bars and easy to reach on foot. West of town, Playa de San Pedro and the coves around Puerto Banús are busier and flashier. East towards Cabopino and Elviria the beaches get longer and quieter, with golden sand and dune scenery; Cabopino has an unofficial nudist section at the far end. The water is calm and shallow, and the beach season effectively runs from May to October.
