Plaza de los Naranjos

Orange-tree-shaded Renaissance square in Marbella's old town

The heart of the old town, a small square shaded by orange trees and ringed by whitewashed buildings. A 15th-century Renaissance fountain sits in the middle; the 16th-century town hall and the 17th-century Casa del Corregidor line the edges. Tables spill out from cafes and restaurants -- touristy and overpriced, but the setting is genuine.

Worth a visit in the evening when the day-trippers have gone and the square quiets down. The surrounding streets of the casco antiguo are pleasant to wander, with small galleries and tapas bars tucked into the side alleys.
