Puente de San Antón

Historic bridge beside San Antón church, long one of Bilbao's symbolic crossings over the Nervión

Puente de San Antón links Bilbao's old core with Bilbao La Vieja, beside the church of the same name and the Ribera market. The present bridge is modern compared with the medieval crossings that preceded it, but the site has long been one of the city's emblematic river points.

It is best seen as part of a walk rather than a destination on its own. Cross here after exploring the Casco Viejo, look back toward the church and market, and you get a compact view of Bilbao before the Guggenheim era: river trade, parish church, market hall, and dense old streets.
