The Convent of Santa Clara of Assisi was founded in 1547, making it the first nunnery in the Canary Islands. It is still a working Franciscan convent, but visitors can see the carved wooden balconies and a small museum of monastic treasures.
The collection includes gold and silver work, textiles, sculpture, and paintings. In a city full of handsome religious buildings, this one feels especially intimate.
