Abecita Art Museum

The Abecita Konstmuseum is a privately founded museum of modern art housed, like everything good in Borås, in a converted old industrial building — in this case the former Abecita corset factory, just south of the city centre. The collection focuses on pop art and photography: original works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and a deep collection of 20th-century photography including Robert Mapplethorpe.

For a smallish private museum in a small Swedish city, the quality of the work on show is remarkable. The photography wing alone justifies the visit. The museum also runs an active programme of temporary exhibitions; check the schedule before you arrive. Modest entry fee, and the on-site bistro is worth lingering in.
