Museum für Gestaltung

Switzerland's leading design and applied arts museum, with two sites in the city

The Museum für Gestaltung is Switzerland's design museum, with a deep collection covering graphic design, poster art, applied art, and Swiss industrial design — chairs by the Vitra family, Helvetica typography in original drawings, watches by the kilo. It operates from two sites: the original Toni Areal building in Kreis 5 (large temporary exhibitions and the collections highlights gallery) and the smaller former Schule für Gestaltung building near Limmatplatz.

Permanent exhibits cover Swiss design history, the famous Swiss poster collection (one of the largest in the world), and a rotating selection from the chair-and-object archive. The temporary exhibitions are consistently excellent and often the reason the international design press writes about Zurich. About two to three hours to do both sites; closed Mondays.
