Zurich's only museum dedicated to non-European art, housed in the neoclassical Villa Wesendonck -- where Richard Wagner once composed parts of Tristan und Isolde. The permanent collection spans Indian sculpture, Chinese painting, Japanese prints, African masks, and pre-Columbian ceramics, displayed with enough space to let individual pieces breathe.
The villa sits in the Rieter Park on the western shore of Lake Zurich, making the grounds worth visiting on their own. A modern underground extension (the "Emerald") added gallery space without disrupting the park. Take Tram 7 to Museum Rietberg.
