Cathedral of Pokrova (former Armenian Church)

Just off the south-east corner of the Market Square stands a slim white church with two onion-domed towers and a baroque façade — built in the early eighteenth century by the city's Armenian community, who had been living in Stanisławów almost since its founding. The Armenians dispersed in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; the building was rededicated by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as the Cathedral of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God (Pokrova).

The interior keeps an unusually delicate iconostasis and a venerated icon of the Mother of God of Stanyslaviv, said to have wept in 1742. Step inside even for a minute; the contrast with the heavier Polish baroque a hundred metres away on Sheptytsky Square is striking.
