The Framework Knitters' Museum in Ruddington preserves the domestic workshops of the knitters who helped make Nottinghamshire famous for textiles. It is a strong small museum because the setting, machinery, and workers' cottages all explain one another.
This is industrial history at human scale. Instead of vast mills, you see how skilled craft, home life, and hard economics fitted together before factory production changed the trade. It is well worth the short trip from Nottingham.
