A life-size bronze of Robin Hood, bow drawn, stands at the foot of the castle gatehouse on Castle Road. James Woodford's statue was unveiled in 1952 and was paid for by a public subscription organised by a local businessman who felt the city was failing to capitalise on its most famous fictional son. Three smaller bronzes around it depict Little John, Friar Tuck and Will Scarlet.
The statue is brazenly touristy and routinely worn smooth at the hands and bow by visitors posing for photographs — exactly the point. Worth ten minutes on the walk between the castle and the city centre.
