High Rocks

Just outside the town to the south-west, the High Rocks are a far larger outcrop of the same Wealden sandstone that breaks through the surface on the Common. The site has been used by climbers since the late nineteenth century and remains one of the most important bouldering and trad-climbing venues in southern England.

The wider site is privately managed: a small entry fee gives access to the rocks, wooden bridges between the formations, a tea room and an adjoining country-house hotel. The Spa Valley Railway runs heritage steam trains between High Rocks station and Tunbridge Wells West on weekends in summer.
