North Bar

Address 24 New Briggate, Leeds LS1 6NU

North Bar is widely credited with starting the craft beer revolution in Leeds. Opened in 1997 when craft beer was a rarity in England, it now keeps around 20 rotating taps of craft and keg beer from British, Belgian, German, and American brewers, alongside a strong bottled selection. The bar itself is small and fills quickly on weekends, but there is usually space in the adjoining rooms.

The bar is unpretentious despite its reputation — no loud music, a relaxed atmosphere, and knowledgeable staff who can talk through the beer list without being insufferable about it. It sits on New Briggate, a short walk from the Grand Theatre and the Victorian arcades. Several sister bars around Leeds carry the North Bar name.
