Leeds City Varieties

Address Swan Street, Leeds LS1 6LW

The Leeds City Varieties is a Grade II* listed music hall built in 1865, one of the best-preserved Victorian variety theatres in Britain. The intimate gilded interior, with its balconies, ornate plasterwork, and original stage, feels like stepping directly into the Victorian era. The theatre was built as part of the White Swan Inn and operated as a music hall from the start, hosting comedians, singers, magicians, and novelty acts.

Today it continues as a live entertainment venue with a programme of comedy, music, and variety shows. Even if you are not seeing a show, a tour of the building is worth arranging through the box office. It sits in a lane off the main Headrow, easily missed but unmistakable once found.
