Loch Venachar

The nearest of the Trossachs lochs to Callander, Loch Venachar lies about 4 km west of town along the A821. It is less dramatic than Loch Katrine but has its own quiet character — a long, relatively shallow loch fringed with reeds and woodland, part of Glasgow's historic water supply system. The southern shore road is popular with cyclists on the Trossachs Trail. Osprey fish the loch in summer; the resident red kites are easier to spot, often circling over the surrounding farmland. There is a small sailing club at the eastern end.
