One of the oldest pubs on the Grassmarket, the Beehive has been serving locals and visitors since the 18th century. The interior retains a certain antiquity — low ceilings, wooden booths, the feel of a pub that has not been refurbished into blandness. The location, on the historic square where public hangings once drew crowds, adds to the atmosphere. Good range of Scottish ales on tap; bar food is hearty and unpretentious.
