The Water of Leith Walkway follows the river for 12 miles from Balerno in the Pentland Hills to the port of Leith, passing through the Dean Village, Stockbridge, and the city centre. The section through Stockbridge and the Dean Village is the most picturesque — a wooded river valley that feels surprisingly rural given its proximity to the city centre. The path is well-maintained and mostly flat, making it accessible for all ages and abilities. The Dean Village stretch, just upstream from Stockbridge, has 19th-century mill buildings and a view from Thomas Telford's Dean Bridge that is one of Edinburgh's hidden pleasures.
