R&A World Golf Museum

Five centuries of golf history, opposite the R&A clubhouse

Address Bruce Embankment

The R&A World Golf Museum, on the seafront just opposite the Royal and Ancient clubhouse, traces the game from its origins on the Scottish links of the 15th century through every era since. Exhibits include hickory-shafted clubs, the original Claret Jug (replicas now travel with the Open), and rotating displays on individual players.

The museum is comprehensive and well-paced — the best place in town to fill an hour or two if you cannot get a tee time on the Old Course. Open daily; modest entry fee. The café upstairs has a balcony overlooking the West Sands and the 18th green.
