A narrow-gauge steam railway running 12 miles from Aberystwyth up into the Rheidol Valley to Devil's Bridge, climbing nearly 700 feet through some of the most dramatic scenery in mid-Wales. The journey takes about an hour each way. At the terminus, Devil's Bridge itself is worth the trip — three bridges stacked on top of each other spanning a spectacular gorge, with a series of waterfalls below. The railway runs from Easter to October.

A story
The Vale of Rheidol Railway was the last steam railway operated by British Rail — it wasn't privatised until 1989, making it something of a national curiosity for decades.
