Mostyn Gallery

Mostyn is the most important contemporary art gallery in Wales outside Cardiff, and one of the more distinctive art spaces in Britain. It occupies a handsome red-brick building on Vaughan Street that was originally built in 1901 as an exhibition hall. After a major renovation in 2010 — which added a striking new facade and significantly expanded the gallery space — it has become a destination in its own right.

The programme focusses on contemporary and modern art, with a rolling series of temporary exhibitions that bring major names alongside emerging artists. There is no permanent collection on display, which means every visit offers something new. The gallery is free to enter for most exhibitions, and has a good bookshop. Unusually for a town of Llandudno's size, it has a genuinely national reputation — well worth an hour even if contemporary art is not your usual beat.
