Bahamian Brewery

The Bahamian Brewery is a working craft brewery in Freeport that produces Sands, Strong Back stout, High Rock lager, and a rotating selection of craft beers. Tours of the facility are available on weekdays, showing the brewing process from grain to bottle, and ending at the tasting room where the full range can be sampled.

The brewery taproom is the most comfortable place in Freeport to drink Bahamian beer — the selection is broader than any bar or restaurant in town, and the industrial-chic setting is a pleasant change from resort-style venues. Brewery merchandise and mixed cases are available to take home. Tours should be booked in advance. The brewery is north of the city centre; a taxi from Port Lucaya takes about 10 minutes.

A story
The Bahamian Brewery was founded in 2007, ending the Bahamas' long dependence on imported beer. Sands, its flagship lager, became the first Bahamian-brewed beer sold nationally in modern times. The brewery grew quickly and now supplies much of the country — a not insignificant achievement given that the local market had been dominated by Kalik (brewed in Nassau) for decades.
