Sport Fishing

Grand Bahama sits on the edge of some of the most productive fishing grounds in the Atlantic. The Gulf Stream passes close to the island's northern shore, making it a reliable location for big-game species — blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, and wahoo are the main targets from April through autumn. Closer inshore, reef fishing produces yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, grouper, and cobia.

Several charter operations run from the Port Lucaya marina, offering half-day and full-day trips on well-equipped sportfishing boats. The boats are typically 30–40 foot centre-console or sportfisher models, with tackle and bait included. Deep-sea charters are expensive compared to land-based activities, but the quality of the fishing — and the chance of a genuine offshore trophy — is hard to match elsewhere in the Bahamas. Bone fishing in the tidal flats on the island's south side is a more technical alternative for fly-fishing enthusiasts.
