Saint Lawrence Gap

St. Lawrence Gap — "the Gap" to everyone who lives here — is a kilometre-long strip of bars, restaurants, beach clubs, and shops running parallel to the south coast in the middle of Christ Church. It is the social heart of visitor Barbados: compact enough to walk in an evening, lively enough to fill a week of nights.

During the day the Gap is quiet. After sunset it becomes the liveliest stretch on the island, particularly Thursday through Sunday. Beach bars open onto the sand at one end; the main road through the Gap is lined with everything from casual rum shops to upmarket seafood tables. There is no single correct way to do the Gap — arrive around 8pm, pick a rum punch, and follow the music.
