Estel's is the kind of breakfast spot that earns a daily following. Plastic chairs on the sand, the sea a few metres away, and a menu built around johnnycakes — the Belizean cornmeal flatbreads that are as good a breakfast food as exists in Central America. They come stuffed with egg and cheese or beans, and are best eaten warm from the pan.
The lunch menu leans on burritos and fresh juice. Service is unhurried and the prices are among the most honest on the island. It is consistently busy with divers who have just surfaced from a morning on the reef and want something filling before the afternoon session. Come early for breakfast; the best johnnycakes sell out.
