Supreme Court of Canada

Canada's highest court, housed in a monumental Art Deco building west of Parliament Hill

The Supreme Court of Canada stands just west of Parliament Hill in a severe, handsome Art Deco building of pale stone and copper rooflines. It is one of Ottawa's best civic buildings, and it gives the capital's political core a judicial counterweight to the Parliament buildings nearby.

When open for visits, the court is a good stop for anyone interested in Canadian government, law, or architecture. Even from outside, the building is worth including on a walk along Wellington Street and the escarpment above the Ottawa River.
