The old port district at the foot of the Lower Town cliff has been redeveloped into one of the city's most enjoyable outdoor areas. The Agora — an outdoor performance space — hosts summer concerts; the Marché du Vieux-Port operates as a farmers' market from spring to autumn, selling Québec produce, cheeses, maple products, and charcuterie. In winter the outdoor rink in the Bassin Louise is one of the best skating spots in the city.
The Musée naval de Québec and several other small museums occupy buildings along the waterfront. The promenade along the river gives views of the Château Frontenac on its cliff above, which is arguably more impressive from below than from the front. Ferries cross to Lévis on the south shore throughout the day; the crossing takes ten minutes and the view back at Québec City from the Lévis ferry is one of the better urban panoramas in Canada.
