Porte Saint-Jean is one of the gates through the old walls of Quebec City, marking the western approach into the historic centre. The present gate dates from 1939-40, but it stands on a line of defences that has been rebuilt several times as the city changed shape.
It is not a long stop, but it makes a good entry point into the walled city. From here you are close to Rue Saint-Jean, the fortifications, and the compact streets that make Old Quebec so easy to wander.
