In winter, Prince Albert National Park maintains a network of groomed cross-country skiing trails around the Waskesiu area and beyond. The boreal forest is transformed — spruce trees load up with snow, the lakes freeze solid, and the trails cut through a landscape of extraordinary quiet. The Waskesiu ski trails include loops suitable for beginners and longer runs for experienced skiers; the backcountry routes extend for days.
Snowshoeing is possible on any ungroomed trail; the park also marks specific snowshoe routes. Winter camping in the backcountry — in extreme cold, in deep snow, with no services — is an option for experienced winter travellers only. Rental equipment is available in Waskesiu during the winter season, though facilities are more limited than in summer.
