Conexus Arts Centre

The Conexus Arts Centre is Regina's main performing arts venue, a Brutalist concrete building on the edge of Wascana Park that has hosted every significant touring performance in the city since 1970. The main Conexus Hall seats 2,030 and has acoustic characteristics that work well for orchestral music; the smaller Rawlinson Theatre seats 780 and handles chamber music, drama, and smaller touring shows.

The resident Saskatchewan Symphony Orchestra performs here through the season, and the programming for touring artists runs from international orchestras to popular music acts to Broadway touring productions. The building's waterside setting in Wascana Park is attractive — the view from the lobby across the lake to the Legislative Building is the kind of architectural tableau that cities plan for and don't always achieve. Check the calendar for what's on during your visit; the SSO season runs September through April.

A story
The Conexus Arts Centre (formerly the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts) was designed by Canadian architect Clifford Wiens and opened in 1970 — part of the centennial infrastructure that the federal government funded across Canada as a Confederation centennial celebration. Wiens's building, with its concrete shell and dramatic roofline, was considered architecturally adventurous for its time, and it remains the most striking modernist building in Regina.
