The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is Regina's best general museum and covers three distinct areas: First Nations peoples and cultures, natural history, and life sciences. The First Nations gallery is particularly well done — a comprehensive treatment of Saskatchewan's Indigenous history and contemporary culture that takes a collaborative approach with the communities represented. The natural history halls give a solid introduction to the geology and ecology of the prairies and parklands.
The highlight for most visitors is Scotty the T. rex in the Paleo Hall — one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus skeletons in Canada, displayed at the actual scale of the animal. Children are consistently struck by how large the skull is; adults by how much more weight the bones suggest than photographs convey. The museum is entirely free, which makes it the easiest yes in Regina's cultural landscape. Plan two to three hours for a proper visit.
