French Harbour is the island's main fishing port, on the south coast about midway along Roatán, and increasingly a base for upmarket resort and residential development. The town itself is working Honduras — fish processing plants, supermarkets, a busy commercial main street — but the surrounding area has the Iguana Wildlife Park, several large resorts, and access to dive sites less visited than those off West End.
The Coral Cay area east of the port has good snorkelling from the shore. The harbour itself is the place to arrange a sport-fishing charter — Roatán is a serious billfish destination from March through July.
