Parque Central — officially the Plaza Morazán — is the historic heart of Tegucigalpa, named for Francisco Morazán, the 19th-century Central American federalist whose statue stands at the centre. The cathedral faces onto the square from the east, and the seat of government is nearby.
The square itself is busy throughout the day with vendors, office workers, and tourists. It's not pristine, but it functions as a genuine public space. The surrounding streets include some of the oldest colonial architecture in the city, and the park is a useful orientation point for exploring the historic centre on foot.
