The Iglesia de Santa Ana, the original parish church of Boca del Río, sits in the small main square a few blocks back from the river. It is a modest single-nave colonial church built in the late eighteenth century, with whitewashed walls, a low bell tower, and a quiet courtyard out back. The interior is plain, with a Baroque altar and a much-venerated image of Saint Anne.
The square itself is the closest thing the modern city has to an old centre — a bandstand, a couple of long-running coffee stalls, and a Saturday market in the gardens. Worth half an hour before walking down to the malecón.
