Malecón of Boca del Río

The seafront promenade that runs along the mouth of the Jamapa River and out toward the open Gulf. On weekdays it is a quiet place to walk, with the river on one side and a strip of shaded benches on the other. On weekends — and especially Sunday afternoons — it becomes one of the most lively gathering places in the metropolitan area, packed with families, food stalls, musicians, and pop-up artisan markets.

Boats run short pleasure trips up the Jamapa from the malecón pier — half-hour cruises with a beer in hand are an honest pleasure if the heat is bearable. The view across to the cantina-and-restaurant strip on the Veracruz side is best at sunset.
