The home stadium of Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, the city's red-shark-themed football club, with a capacity of about 28,000. The team itself has had a turbulent recent history — promoted, relegated, expelled from the league — but match days when the Tiburones do play are loud, hot, and worth the experience if your visit coincides with a fixture.
The stadium is named after Luis "Pirata" Fuente, the storied Veracruz striker of the 1950s and 1960s whose statue stands outside the main entrance. Tickets are cheap by international standards. Tours of the stadium are not regularly offered.
