Boca del Río is where the Veracruz metropolitan area goes to be by the sea on weekends. The headline attractions are the beach at Mocambo and the long seafront malecón, with its weekend craft markets and seafood palapas. Inland, away from the coast, are the convention halls, shopping centres, and the new cathedral that mark the municipality's growth into one of the wealthier suburbs on the Gulf Coast.
