Cancun's largest and oldest tourist-oriented market, a few blocks west of Avenida Tulum in downtown. Hundreds of stalls under one big covered roof sell silver jewellery, hammocks, leather goods, painted ceramics, lucha libre masks, embroidered textiles, T-shirts, and every imaginable souvenir. Haggling is expected — opening prices are usually two to three times what you should pay.
The surrounding cocinas económicas serve some of the best inexpensive Yucatecan food in town. Try the pibil tacos at Las Tres Marias or the panuchos at Doña Tere. The market is open daily from around 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. but is at its best mid-morning before tour groups arrive.
Address: Avenida Xel-Há, between Sunyaxchen and Tankah, Centro.
