Jardin de las Rosas

The Jardín de las Rosas is a small plaza a few blocks west of the main cathedral, surrounded by some of Morelia's finest colonial buildings and with a more relaxed atmosphere than the formal Plaza de Armas. The Templo de las Rosas, a delicate 18th-century church, borders the plaza, and the Conservatorio de las Rosas — one of Mexico's oldest music schools — occupies the former convent next door. The school regularly holds public concerts.

This corner of the city is popular with students and locals who want to escape the tourist traffic on the main plaza. Cafes and restaurants around the square have outdoor seating, making it a good place to stop for coffee and watch the city go by. The surrounding streets have some of the best colonial architecture in the centre — slightly quieter and better preserved than the main commercial drag along Avenida Madero.
