Casa del Títere (House of Puppets)

Over 4,000 Mexican marionettes, shadow puppets, and political satire figures in a converted textile factory

A private museum housed in a former textile factory north of the historic centre, dedicated to the collection of puppetry assembled over decades by Puebla collector Roberto Morales. Over 4,000 puppets fill the rooms: Mexican marionettes with elaborate jointed limbs, shadow puppets of regional traditions, hand puppets, bullfighting marionette tableaux, and a striking collection of Día de los Muertos figures with articulated skeletons.

Some of the most interesting pieces are the political satire puppets — caricatures of Mexican presidents and public figures used in street performances going back to the early 20th century. The collection spans the full range of Mexican puppet-making traditions and includes pieces from Central America and beyond. One of the most unusual museums in Puebla and well worth the small entrance fee. The staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
