La Malinche National Park

High volcano national park between Puebla and Tlaxcala, popular for forest hikes and summit climbs

La Malinche National Park protects the forested slopes of the La Malinche volcano between Puebla and Tlaxcala. From Puebla it is a serious mountain day rather than an urban sight: pine woods, high grassland, cold air, and wide views back toward central Mexico's volcanic skyline.

Fit hikers use the park for the summit route, which climbs well above 4,000 metres and should be treated with respect because of altitude and weather. Less ambitious visitors can still enjoy the lower forest trails and picnic areas, especially as a break from Puebla's churches, tiles, and busy streets.
