Templo San Francisco Acatepec is one of the Puebla region's great Baroque surprises. Its facade is covered in Talavera tile and red brick, turning the church front into a dense pattern of colour, saints, columns, and ornament.
The church sits outside central Puebla, so it works best as part of a Cholula or countryside circuit rather than a casual stroll from the zocalo. It rewards the detour because it shows the local Baroque style at its most exuberant and unmistakably poblano.
