Government House

Sitting halfway up Morne Fortune on the way out of central Castries, Government House is the official residence of Saint Lucia's Governor-General and a rare survivor of the city's nineteenth-century architecture. The current Victorian building dates from 1895 and is a pretty, gingerbread-trimmed affair painted white and pink.

A small museum, the Le Pavillon Royal, is open on weekday mornings and shows photographs and artefacts from the colonial period. The grounds, with their old samans and almond trees, are usually accessible if you sign in at the gate.
