Holy Trinity Cathedral

The Anglican Holy Trinity Cathedral stands near the Woodford Square and the Red House, its Gothic spire rising above the surrounding colonial-era streetscape. Built in the nineteenth century in an English Gothic style, it houses a carved wooden throne said to have been given by the Duke of Wellington, who served briefly in the Caribbean in the 1790s, as well as several marble memorial tablets to colonial-era governors and military officers.

The cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican diocese of Trinidad and Tobago and sees regular services. The interior is cool and calm — a useful retreat from the heat of downtown — and the churchyard is one of the older corners of the city.
