Bisbee is a former copper-mining town tucked into the Mule Mountains of southern Arizona, about half an hour from Tombstone. It is one of the Southwest's best small-town stops: part mining relic, part arts town, part hillside oddity.
Old Bisbee climbs steeply up narrow streets and stairways, with brick storefronts, old hotels, galleries, bars, and houses stacked into the canyon. The mining story is still visible everywhere, from the Copper Queen Mine tour to the vast Lavender Pit on the edge of town.
Bisbee rewards wandering more than checklist travel. Come for a mine tour, stay for the stair climbs, architecture, murals, and desert-mountain light. It pairs neatly with Tombstone, but it has a very different mood: less staged frontier drama, more lived-in eccentricity.
