Tumamoc Hill is a 3.5-mile out-and-back paved road that climbs 750 feet up a volcanic butte on the western edge of downtown. The route is closed to cars (except those of researchers and residents) and is the most heavily used walking trail in Tucson — hundreds of people climb it at sunrise and sunset every day.
The path is steep and steady. The view from the top spreads the entire Tucson basin out below you, with the Catalinas to the north. Bring water; there is no shade.
