Arroyo Verde Park

Arroyo Verde Park is a forested canyon on the north side of Ventura where the city gives way quickly to something that feels genuinely wild. The canyon runs back into the hills through a riparian corridor of oak and sycamore — large, old trees that close over the trail and keep the lower sections cool even in summer. Several trails climb out of the canyon bottom and up onto the open chaparral-covered ridges, where the views extend south over the city and out to the Channel Islands.

The park is used mainly by locals — dog walkers, trail runners, and families on weekend mornings — and it is quiet on weekday afternoons. The lower trails are easy; the upper ridge routes involve some steep climbing. Parking is free at the trailhead off Ferro Drive, and the park has a small playground and picnic area near the entrance for families with children who need a non-hiking option.
