Dudley House

The Dudley House is a late Victorian residence built around 1892 that survives as one of the few intact examples of 19th-century domestic architecture in Ventura. The house was home to the Dudley family for decades and was eventually donated and preserved as a small house museum, giving a picture of how a prosperous Ventura family lived in the years after the oil boom began transforming the region. The interiors are furnished in period style, with rooms arranged as they would have been in daily use.

The museum is run by volunteers and is open on limited hours — typically Sunday afternoons and some weekday mornings. It is worth checking the schedule before making a special trip, but if you are already in the neighbourhood it is an easy stop. The house is modest in scale, reflecting a genuinely middle-class Victorian life rather than the grand estates that tend to dominate historic preservation efforts.
