A small trailhead park at the south end of Palm Desert that serves as one of the main access points into the Santa Rosa foothills. The parking area sits at the edge of the residential grid, and within five minutes of walking you are out of sight of houses and surrounded by ocotillo, creosote, and barrel cactus.
The popular Hopalong Cassidy Trail connects from here — a 4.5-mile ridge route that ends at the Bump and Grind. Quieter than the Painters Path trailhead, especially on weekday mornings. Bighorn sheep are sometimes visible on the slopes above; bring binoculars.
