Lighthouse Point Park sits at the southern tip of the city where the harbour meets Long Island Sound. The park has a beach, a picnic area, a restored 1916 carousel, and a 1905 lighthouse that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In autumn it is one of the best hawk-watching sites on the East Coast — thousands of broad-winged hawks, ospreys, and sharp-shinned hawks funnel through here on their southward migration. The park is free to enter for New Haven residents; non-residents pay a small fee in summer.
