Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History

One of the great natural history museums in the United States, the Peabody holds more than 13 million specimens in collections spanning geology, mineralogy, meteorites, invertebrate and vertebrate paleontology, anthropology, and botany. The dinosaur hall, with its Apatosaurus skeleton and Rudolph Zallinger's panoramic mural "The Age of Reptiles" (1947), is the centrepiece — the mural alone, spanning 110 feet, took four years to paint and remains a landmark of scientific illustration. The museum reopened in 2024 following a major renovation. Admission is charged.
