Sebring

Central Florida lake town known for its circular downtown, old state park, and endurance raceway.

Sebring sits in the Florida Heartland, south of the Orlando orbit and away from the coast. It is an old inland resort and retirement town, but it has more identity than that sounds: a circular downtown, one of Florida's oldest state parks, big shallow lakes, and a raceway known far beyond central Florida.

The best day here mixes nature and odd local character. Highlands Hammock State Park is the strongest anchor, with swamp boardwalks, hammock forest, and a loop road that feels like older Florida. Sebring International Raceway gives the town its motor-sport name, especially around the 12 Hours of Sebring. Downtown's The Circle is quiet but unusual, and Lake Istokpoga brings in fishing, airboats, and alligator country.

Sebring is not a place to cross the state for on its own, but if you are already in the Heartland, it beats a generic highway stop.
